Small Business Consulting

Small Business Consulting, Priced for Small Businesses

Most consulting is built for companies with a finance department. This is built for the owner who does the books on Sunday evening.

Small businesses get the worst of both worlds in professional services. The advice aimed at them is usually generic, and the advice that is actually specific is usually priced for companies ten times their size.

We are a small firm in Hamilton, Ontario working with small businesses across Canada. The engagements are short, the scope is clear, and the price is agreed before anything starts. No retainer you cannot get out of, no hours billed against a problem you did not ask about.

Built for How Small Businesses Actually Work

Short, specific and affordable

Small business engagements are deliberately narrow. One question, properly answered, is worth more than a broad review nobody has time to read.

Fixed scope agreed before work starts
Flat price, not open-ended hourly billing
Plain language, no consulting jargon
Meetings outside business hours where needed
Remote by default, in person when it helps
Work sized to a small business budget
What We Get Asked Most

The questions that come up again and again

Across small business engagements, the same handful of problems account for most of the work: pricing that has not moved in years while costs have, cash that disappears despite a profitable year, a first hire that the owner cannot confidently commit to, and a suspicion that one part of the business is quietly subsidising another.

None of these need a large engagement. They need someone to look at the actual numbers and give a straight answer.

Local, and Remote

Hamilton, the surrounding area, and across Canada

We are based in Hamilton and work regularly with businesses in Stoney Creek, Ancaster, Dundas, Waterdown and Burlington, where meeting in person is easy.

Beyond the region we work remotely with small businesses across Canada. For most small business consulting the work is document and data based, so distance rarely matters.

If your records need attention first, our bookkeeping and clean-up services cover that.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is consulting worth it for a very small business?

For a broad open-ended review, often not. For one specific question — is this profitable, can I afford this hire, why is cash tight — it usually pays for itself quickly, because the decision it informs is worth more than the fee.

How much does small business consulting cost?

Engagements are fixed-scope and fixed-price, agreed after a free initial conversation. We size the work to the question and to a small business budget rather than billing open-ended hours.

Do you work with businesses outside Hamilton?

Yes. We meet in person around Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Ancaster, Dundas, Waterdown and Burlington, and work remotely with small businesses across Canada.

What if I just need my books sorted out?

Then that is what we will tell you. Consulting on unreliable records is wasted money. We provide bookkeeping and clean-up as separate services and will point you there if that is the real need.
